Early Years

The Nursery and Reception classes work together as a team and follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. At Canonbury we work to provide a supportive, safe and secure environment for our youngest children to learn, play and develop.

Year 1

Year 1 is made up of two classes, the first named after the double Olympic gold medal winning athlete, Dame Kelly Holmes and the other after the pioneering British nurse, Florence Nightingale.

Year 2

Year 2 is made up of two classes, the first named after the famous ballerina, Anna Pavlova and the other after Nelson Mandela, who was the first president of a free South Africa and who was imprisoned for his beliefs for almost 40 years.

Year 3

Year 3 is made up of two classes, the first named after Edward Jenner, the scientist who founded the use of the small pox vaccine and the other after Marie Curie, the female scientist who pioneered the use of radiotherapy as a treatment for cancer.

Year 4

Year 4 is made up of two classes, the first named after Martin Luther King, the human rights activist and the other after J K Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series.

Year 5

Year 5 is made up of two classes, the first named after Ted Hughes, the poet and the other after Mahatma Gandhi, the peace protester and lawyer.

Year 6

Year 6 is made up of two classes, the first named after Desmond Tutu, Archbishop of Cape Town, South Africa and anti-apartheid campaigner and the other after Winston Churchill, Britain’s wartime leader and former prime minister.
