21 Mar Reception Join Blue Watch Fire Crew
On Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th of March, Goldsworthy and Keller Class took a trip to visit some very brave people.
We have been learning about ‘People Who Help Us’ so we decided to visit the Men and Women of Islington Fire Station on Upper Street. The children were very excited to meet the crew of ‘Blue Watch’. We had the opportunity to sit in the fire engine, try on protective masks and use the fire hose.
During Goldsworthy’s visit, the crew received an emergency call and we rushed to the side of the station to witness them speed off to help with a real fire!
During Keller’s visit, a special guest came to talk to them. The firefighter was wearing all of her protective clothing including a helmet to show us what firefighters wear during a fire. When she took off her helmet, we realised it was Jennifer!
We asked lots of questions about a fire fighter’s job and we learned that not many girls become fire fighters in London. I think that is about to change because lots of girls put up their hands to say they wanted to be firefighters when they grow up. Islington, you will be in safe hands!
