24 Jan Chicken in the Kitchen
In reception we are learning………………………..
Reception Classes have been exploring the book ‘Chicken in the Kitchen’ by Nnedi Okorator and have explored many fun elements linked to their learning including: finding out about traditional masquerades in Nigeria and comparing and contrasting the similarities and differences we saw in Nigeria, via Google Earth, to our locality around Canonbury School. We have also put many Design and Technology skills into practice as we thought about the best ways to join materials to construct our chicken from junk modelling materials. In Art, we learned about traditional wax relief methods used to create African batik and used this technique to create our chicken’s feathers. And not resting on our laurels there, as well as cooking and tasting yams and sweet potatoes, the children also applied their phonics skills to write to Patrick and invite him down to see the class chicken in the kitchen!
