15 Mar Governor Day at Canonbury
Canonbury Governors spent the day at school on Friday, 4th March.
We visited Guided Reading (above) and English lessons during the morning in order to see what teaching and learning looks like at our school. This helps us to understand how our School Development Plan objectives are being implemented in lessons.
This year, the school is working on the development of Grammar for Writing and we were able to look at children’s work and talk about their learning in this area. We also looked at Guided Reading, which was developed last year and takes place first thing across the school.
Sarah Grey, Year 3 Curie Teacher and English Leader, talked further about the whole school Grammar focus. We asked questions about what we had seen and discussed it as a Governing Body.
Later on we met with School Council to consider how children are included in setting direction in the school . They talked about many projects including the renaming and re-launch of the House system as well as proposals for what ‘house points’ should be for.
Governor Day helps us to make a well-informed contribution to the strategic direction of the school.
