08 Mar Hooray for World Book Day!
We had a great time on World Book Day last week! There was lots of fun to be had throughout the school…
We dressed up in wonderful costumes! We had lots of school adults reading their favourite stories to us throughout the day, and some of our families came in to share books too. In addition, some of us joined in the Book Swap and exchanged a pre-loved book for someone else’s. Amongst lots of other fun activities, we used our detective skills to guess which book case belonged to which member of staff – some of the shelves had LOADS of books on them, showing that it’s not only children who love to read at Canonbury!
If you were in the reception area of school, you might have seen Canonbury staff reading in funny places – on a pontoon in the Serpentine lake… locked in the stocks in Oxford… in the shower! And lots of adults cosying up with a book alongside their pets (cats, dogs, chickens..!)
The highlight of the day was sharing our Canonbury Tales with the whole school. During the week, KS1 and 2 created a ‘pass the parcel’ story based around an exciting suitcase that appeared in the office… Year 1 classes wrote the Openings, Year 2 and Year 3 wrote the Build ups, Year 5 wrote the Dilemmas, Year 4 the Resolutions and Year 6 the Endings. Once the two stories had been written, Reception and Nursery provided the amazing illustrations. The stories were enchanting, gripping, at times humorous, and always full of imagination! It showed what fantastic authors and illustrators we have at Canonbury – something we are all very proud of.
Have a look at our photos and you’ll see how much fun we had raising over £300 for Book Aid International!
