09 May Tree-mendous Tree Workshop in Year 3
In year 3 we are learning……………………..
Year 3 had heaps of fun learning about the importance of trees and the role they play in our world (and our playground!) with Tony and Katy from Avon Wildlife Trust. We hunted for insects that use trees as homes – spotting wasps, hover flies, spiders, ants and ladybirds. We sorted leaves from our playground trees into their different shapes, learning names such as Oval, Thin, Heart, Palmate and Lobed. Turns out, we have all 5 types of leaf in our woodland area! We also learned about the amazing oak tree, hearing a poem which taught us that oaks can live for 900 years! 300 years to grow, 300 years to thrive and 300 years to die, that’s 900 years alive. Finally, we made some rubbings of the bark on the tree trunks around us. What a tree-mendous morning we all had!
