Rachel Kirkland and Abi Hudson, Year 5, explain the important work of Peer mentors at Canonbury:
“Peer mentors are children in Year 5 and 6 who help younger children in the playground and at lunch. We also help show parents around the school during School Tours.
We watch over the playground equipment to make sure all the children are o.k. and safe.
We help children who want someone to play with, negotiating for them to join in with a group.
We are people you can rely on. You can go to us when you feel upset or need to calm down.
Children can count on us to take them to First Aid if they are hurt. For example, a boy in our class fell over and hurt his knee. I took him to the First Aid bench for a plaster and then went back to my job.”
