13 May Baking in Reception Class
Look at what we have been learning in reception…………
Reception Children Find Out How Corn Can be Used in Baking
We would like to extent a huge Canonbury thank you to, Rafferty’s mother and Grandmother who came in to bake cornbread with our children today.
The children learnt so much from the experience, including where cornmeal flour came from and were intrigued to find out that it was yellow in colour, just like sweetcorn. Some children made predictions that the bread would also be yellow when baked and were chuffed to find out that their prediction was accurate.
There was much collaborative talk as the children cut, mixed and measured ingredients and then tidied up their workspace to leave it like new – what a crew!.
Understandably, the children were excited to taste their produce, and kept asking how long more it would take in the oven; however, the wait was well worth it, for at the end of the day, everyone who wanted to try the bread had a delicious slice.
