18 Oct Year 4 Investigate Sound Proofing
In Science, year 4 have been learning all about sound. We know how sounds are made, how they travel, and can even tell you how our ear works. We watched a video about Bert, who was having some problems with neighbours who played their music too loud. Our task was to find out which material would best ‘muffle’ the sound of his neighbour’s music, by designing a pair of ear defenders. We investigated a range of different materials (testing them by listening to Justin Timberlake) and had some surprising results. A lot of us predicted that cotton wool and felt would work the best because of its density, however paper and plastic bags actually worked even better!
